I just discovered the photographer Niels Ackermann and am blown away by his photo documentation of life in post-Soviet Ukraine. He shot the above image of women practicing yoga on a rooftop in what appears to be downtown Kiev. The light is hazy, the background a riot of unfinished high-rises and crumbling factories, but in the foreground, calm. Eight women sit tall in siddhasana, eyes closed, in repose.
It's easy to picture the blissed-out yogi perched motionless amidst the chaos of an Indian marketplace or American gym, but this photograph takes transcendence to another level. Next time you think you cannot possibly find your center, think again. It's inside you!
