Aqua-centered activewear usually falls into two camps: the lifeguard Speedo meant for turning laps , and the Pinterest bait bikinis made with a little mesh and maybe some neoprene ruffles to make it look athleisurely. Neither of these options appeals to me when I’m ready to hit the neighborhood pool.
Enter Lori Coulter Swim, a Saint Louis-based brand that offers made-to-order, retro-inspired swimwear crafted for both lounging and playing. I recently worked with the brand on a poolside shoot and had the time of my life popping into sirsasana in the neutral color-blocked Monroe bikini—the style and construction of which struck that perfect balance between sport-inspired and for-sports-only. (See dichotomy above.) The silhouette was a big departure from my usual double-knotted string two-piece or ‘90s-inspired maillot. I was so happy with my suit, however, that I ended up wearing it home from the Cheshire and onward to a meet-up with friends at, where else? The neighborhood pool.
